Yeah, thats why we all do it. FUN. But after a year of shooting, it does loose it's cool. So I suppose we need the fun projects again.
The year is supposed to be winding down, but it's now got that crazy RUSH to the end... lots of fashion shows, some HUGE, no make that massive, shoots. And about 13 flights. Sometimes 3 in one day. Not to mention lugging ProFoto's best along at around 40Kg overweight.
What does photography mean to you?
I watched a TED talk on this a while back, right after one on what GLAMOUR means to us, as a modern society. The videos are available in the TED TALKS section of the Apple Store in iTunes. Download them to your iPod (or iPhone if you're cool) and watch them.
To me, what does photography mean??? Thats a good question. It's sometimes strange to think about, as I'm what they term a creator, not a consumer of photographic material. But nevertheless, recently watching the Annie Leibowitz movie, I was struck how powerful some of her portraits were. Simple, yet powerful.
Along with my commercial fashion photography, I can only answer this question by saying I see photography as a medium for moving our thoughts on a particular subject. Either influencing (what we do) or providing insight.
WHAT TO DO YOU THINK??
This was the busiest fashion show year to date. I've shot a million shows it feels like, so I leave you with the picture snapped of me at Joburg Fashion Week earlier this year. (thanks Kris!) And there are still about 10 shows left for the year.
///// STATS FOR THIS YEAR SO FAR:
28 return flights to Johannesburg from Cape Town
6 other return flights to various destinations, mostly Durban, but also London. Twice.
2 new Canon dSLR bodies added. One destroyed.
2 broken ProFoto battery packs. F U C K.
1740Gb of photographs based on our backup drives.
2 almost cool places to move the studio to, but didn't work out.
4 Fashion Weeks.
and lastly... 3 pairs of VANS sneakers. RIP. You did well.
THAT IS IT>>>> CHECK BACK NEXT MONTH FOR MORE BORING SHIT.
