Louise Island

Modepass: What gave you the envy to work in fashion and create clothes?

Louise Island: Fashion interested me rather late, in high school when I started to make "clothes" with a friend. Tops with tights sleeves, experimental clothes, etc. We worshiped Bjork shifted Style. Then I started to visit second hand clothing shops, collecting vintage clothes, sewing by hand. I realized that I loved to create, imagine clothes and give them life. I started taking this game seriously when I got my first orders!

Modepass: What is your background?

Louise Island: After my Baccalauréat, I went to university just enough time to realize that it was not for me ...  I traveled, I began to create bags, gather tissue until I realized that I needed technique.
So, I went to the ESMOD school for 1 year, the time to learn the essentials. I decided to create my own brand and to live from my passion. I started frantically sewing at home, while making tons of odd jobs. After a year, I decided to do not spend 6 hours a day alone in front of my machine, so I decided to move to an higher place. I found it, I chose my leathers and followed step by step to achieving my first mini collection bags. 2 other collections followed it and, today, my first collection of ready to wear. My brand, "Louise Island" is distributed in 15 selling points in France.

Modepass: Can you explain the spirit of your collection, its inspiration, its theme if there is one?

Louise Island: I thought the soft and fluid dresses and tops, which make us feel beautiful just in wearing them. These are clothes that make you happy.  My clothes are not basic ones. There are some sleeveless dresses, glitter, etc but in a casual style. They are friendly and you can wear them for a party or even with jeans to go to shopping. Wise dresses jostled by small leather rock & roll jacket.
This collection is more than a product suite. It is a story. I'm working closely with a photographer who has the task of printing what I had in mind... I try to create a consistency in my collections between the garment and its image. "Louise island” wants to create a gentle and poetic universe.

Modepass: Which part of your collection do you prefer and why?

Louise Island: I love the poem top because it mixes the opacity of cotton and transparency of organza, etc. It looks like a corset! There are these small details that make a clothe aerian and so comfortable to wear! It also has a small “Marie Antoinette” side that I love very much.
The Dolce Vita top is inspired by retro lingerie. It is natural silk, and his chest is very delicate, very feminine.
I wear it with jeans and a wool jacket.
